Poet Charles Harper Webb

A poet, a musician, a scholar; Charles Harper Webb is a creative and intellectual force to be reckoned with. As a teenager, he possessed enough talent to play guitar and sing professionally, then went on to work the band circuit while acquiring a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. After grad school, he went on tour while simultaneously editing literary magazine Madrona and getting his poems published all over the place—even landing the 1978 Wormwood Review Award for his very first collection. Then came another Master’s degree, a Doctorate, a novel-turned-screenplay, a fellowship from the Guggenheim Foundation, the Samuel French Morse Poetry Prize, and scores more awards and accolades. Tuesday, he’ll be at Barnes and Noble’s open mic poetry night—open to all aspiring poets, or those simply in need of a big slice of humble pie.
