During the Beatles’ 10-year run from 1960 to 1970, they put out five motion pictures—all complete with their own celebrated soundtracks. There was Help! in 1965, Magical Mystery Tour in 1967, Yellow Submarine in 1968 and best of all, A Hard Day’s Night in 1964. Now, A Hard Day’s Night isn’t just some half-wit attempt starring the biggest and best celebrities of the time in some trite film, banking off nothing but the devotion of fangirls and boys (we’re looking at you, Elvis!). Though they certainly weren’t the only rockstars to get their own films, the Beatles managed to hold their own when it came to the best scripts and even pretty choice acting. Shot in a mockumentary style, the film follows the daily lives of the Beatles. You know: avoiding hoards of fans, playing some dreamy music, looking dreamy, delivering some glib one-liners and then there’s the problem of McCartney’s grandfather (described consistently as a “clean old man”).
