Lexi Lee

Lexi Lee creates spare but iron-spined folk with a ukulele and a catch in her voice that might make George Herriman (who was writing at the same time the songs on the Anthology of American Folk Music were being recorded) think of the angels. There’s something innocent (in the Carter Family way) and idiosyncratic (in the Stoneman way) and a bit powerful in her music, too, and you’ll hear that same combination on some of the old songs from Sun—where the musicians would walk in from the hills because they were just that certain they had something they needed to sing.
