Footloose!

Imagine moving to a town so conservative that rock music and dancing have been banned. This nightmare scenario serves as the basis for Footloose!, a musical based on the 1984 film starring Kevin Bacon—the actor of “six degrees of separation” fame. And what does that have to do with anything? Well, Musical Theater Village’s theatrical version of this classic features live performances of songs written by Kenny Loggins, whose first solo album, Celebrate Me Home, included the single “I Believe In Love,” which was originally sung by Barbara Streisand in A Star is Born, which co-starred Gary Busey, the wild-eyed and horse-toothed actor who also starred in the hit ‘90s film Point Break, which was about renegade bank-robber surfers that’s loosely based—as in so loose its connection is imperceptible—on the Brotherhood, a group of drug-smuggling surfers whom our own Nick Schou just finished writing a book on. Whew! So, in essence, by simply reading OC Weekly, you’re already just six degrees away from seeing this local theater production.
