Expect to see a little extra sawdust tracked through the Hyatt Regency in Irvine’s lobby, as 400 musicians, DJs, journalists, agents and folk enthusiasts descend on Orange County for the Folk Alliance Region West’s (FAR-West) sixth annual convention. Participants are treated to several stage showcases in rooms with folkie titles related to OC’s past: the Paradox, the Golden Bear, the Four Muses and the Prison of Socrates (a nod to Tim Morgon, a popular folk singer in ’60s Newport Beach). The festivities include honoring the clubs and musicians who made the county a prime destination for romantic souls with six strings, spoons or a squeeze box.
