Cal State Fullerton Wrestling Pinned to the Mat

Tuesday came and went, possibly taking the Cal State Fullerton wrestling program with it.

The university in September informed Titans grapplers they would have to raise $450,000 by March 1 if they wanted their sport to remain on campus.

“It doesn't look like we're going to make it,” head coach Dan Hicks tells the Daily Titan.

Deadline extensions have been granted in the past, but Hicks is not expecting one this time. He said the team received 95 percent of the total goal in pledges, but the university is not convinced that much will be ultimately collected.

The only Division I wrestling program south of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and Cal State Bakersfield, the Titans finished in seventh place at the Pac-10 Championships in Corvallis, Oregon, this past weekend. Senior Todd Noel posted the best individual results, placing third in the 184-pound division.
