'By Hundreds and Thousands'

The inky black shapes of Danny Schutt’s artwork are so exquisitely executed that, together, they produce nearly photographic images of his subjects: revolutionaries, laborers, industrial workers and other hard-living people who’ve gone through the ringer and kept on fighting—much like Schutt himself. This Saturday’s opening of new work in his “By Hundreds and Thousands” exhibit coincides with the Art Crawl Experience, a monthly festival featuring indie crafts, food trucks and live music. Gritty aesthetics, social-class commentaries and thought-provoking intensities aside, the reason behind his success can’t be masked—Danny Schutt’s art is just really effing rad.

Saturdays, Sundays. Starts: Aug. 13. Continues through Sept. 3, 2011
