I'm really not sure what the appeal here is. A few weeks ago, it was McDonald's that offered black and white burgers in China. Now, it appears the Burger Kings in Japan are getting into burger noir act, too.
Starting this Friday, September 28, the Japanese arm of the King will start selling the so-called “Kuro Burger”, which is Japanese for, you guessed it, “Black Burger,” with buns that are made jet black by mixing bamboo charcoal into the dough.

Underneath the bun, everything will be the same as your protypical Whopper except for the addition of black ketchup, which is reportedly made from regular ketchup, garlic and squid ink.
The burger is to commemorate the 5th anniversary of Burger King's venture into Japan.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the traditional material for a fifth anniversary wood, not bamboo charcoal?
