Buena Park Tries to Pluck Drunk Drivers Off Beach Blvd. Tonight

The Buena Park Police Department is scheduled to hold a drivers license/DUI checkpoint near Beach Boulevard and Stanton Avenue from 7 tonight through 2 a.m. Saturday. The goal is to save lives, reduce accidents and keep drunks off the roads, as the department cites statistics showing a 20 percent drop in alcohol-related crashes when checkpoints are well advertised.

Over the past three years, 15 people have died and 102 others have been injured in some of the 735 DUI collisions in Buena Park during that span, according to police.

Funding for the checkpoint is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
