Buena Park Downtown Mall Reopened: Update

Mall shoppers have been evacuated and those heading to Buena Park Downtown are being told to stay away due to a natural-gas leak.

Crews working just outside the shopping center at 8308 On The Mall apparently struck an underground pipe on accident about an hour and a half ago.

This post will be updated as more details become available.

UPDATE, NOV. 13, 12:49 A.M.: The mall has reopened, according to fire officials.

About 250-300 workers in 50 stores were safely moved out of the mall during the evacuation, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Steve Concialdi.

The leak was caused by contractors working on a new Smashburger restaurant at the mall accidentally severing a large gas line, Concialdi told City News Service.
