Brothers Jose and Edwin Aguirre Join Each Other in Fighting, Fleeing and Booking: Cops

Important tip to brothers who are each wanted by the law for different crimes: Do not get in such a vicious fight that it causes the girlfriend of one of you to call the police. That way you won't wind up behind bars–or at least not as soon–like Jose and Edwin Aguirre.

The girlfriend called 9-1-1 around 6:45 p.m. last Tuesday, Feb. 10, and that brought two Garden Grove Police Department officers to an apartment at 12221 Beach Blvd. But when the cops locked eyes on 21-year-old Jose Aguirre, who had a narcotics arrest warrant out, he took off running, according to Lt. Jeff Nightengale, the Garden Grove Police spokesman.

The officers eventually caught Jose Aguirre a short distance away from the apartment complex, and he was later booked at Orange County Jail on the narcotics warrant. The cops went back to the apartment to check up on the other combatant, who turned out to be 23-year-old Edwin Aguirre.

A parolee-at-large with his own arrest warrant out, Edwin turned to run from the officers and a metal object that appeared to be a weapon was seen in his waistband, according to Nightengale.

Edwin ran off and the same two officers who ran down Jose gave chase. But they lost Edwin so a perimeter was established. Believing Edwin may be armed, a request was made for a helicopter and a canine officer from Anaheim, Nightengale said.

The suspect was spotted hiding in a bush within the perimeter, and numerous announcements were made from the ground and the air above urging him to come out. When these pleas fell on deaf ears, the canine was sent in to pull Aguirre out of the bush. He sustained dog bite wounds to his right calf leg area and was taken to an Anaheim hospital for treatment, Nightengale said.

Like Jose, Edwin was booked on his warrant and each was also charged separately with resisting arrest.
