Yes. You heard right. Britta's Cafe–a Weekly favorite, and the subject of a recent Eat Here Now post by Gustavo–will close for good by the end of this month. As Gustavo noted, Britta Pulliam, its owner and chef, “was doing farm-to-table cooking when most of the county's hipsters chefs were still in their swaddling clothes.”
She's been at it for a little over a quarter century–a dozen years at its current location at University Center across from UCI, and 14 years in Newport Beach prior to that.
Now, in an interview with Orange Coast Magazine, Pulliam says she's retiring her chef's coat. “It's been a great run. The restaurant's about half-full this evening, and I know every single person's name. But, it was the right time,” she said.
