Brian Christian Williams, OC Homicide No. 31: Killed in Alley Fight

Brian Christian Williams and a friend were at a gathering in the unit next to his apartment at Chapman Avenue and State College Boulevard in Fullerton early Sunday when an argument broke out. Williams and the friend, when so told, left.

But others inside the neighboring unit followed the pair outside. This led to a fight in an alley of the 2200 block of East Chapman around 2 a.m., when Williams was punched in the face, fell backward and hit his head hard on the pavement. His friend placed Williams on his apartment's couch to sleep.

The 31-year-old never woke up.

The friend called police around 10 a.m. Sunday to report Williams was not breathing. Paramedics arrived and tried unsuccessfully to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police detectives investigating the death zeroed in on 24-year-old Jason Clifton Baird as being the man alleged to have fatally punched Williams.

Police spotted Baird's GMC Yukon on the westbound 91 freeway at the 55 freeway this morning. Officers in unmarked cars followed the Yukon to Glassell Street and Baywood Avenue in Orange, where they Yukon was pulled over. A man and two women were ordered out.

The women were questioned and released, but the man, later identified as Williams Baird, was arrested on suspicion of murder, booked into Orange County Jail and held in lieu of $1 million bail.

The investigation continues and anyone who can help is asked to call Fullerton Police Det. Matt Malone at 714.738.6534.
