"It would be nice to be the prettiest girl in Utopia, that way I could have my pick of the men."
-Bri Nguyen, 20, of Westminster, in one of the cast statements from the new Fox reality show Utopia, which network executives call "the largest, most ambitious social experiment on television."
The series moves 15 "pioneers" to a remote location where they are tasked with creating a society from scratch, seeking to answer the question: "If you could restart the world, what would you do differently?" So what does Nguyen, a single veterinary technician and student, bring to the pioneering table?
According to her cast bio, Nguyen's skills include farming, raising livestock, horseback riding, canning fruits and vegetables and building huts and she is "passionate" about animal rights and sustainability.
Utopia was created by John de Mol, who previously developed The Voice, Big Brother, Fear Factor and Deal or No Deal. An initial version of Utopia premiered in the Netherlands in January and was the most-watched program in its time slot for 10 consecutive nights, City News Service reports.
It premieres here Sept. 7 and will air regularly at 8 p.m. Tuesdays, although it will also be shown at 8 p.m. Fridays for six consecutive weeks beginning Sept. 12. Live streaming video and other "exclusive content" can be watched 24 hours a day, seven days a week on UtopiaTV.com and via the Utopia app that will be available for iOS, Android and Windows on Aug. 29.
