Thunder followed by what sounded like Buddy Rich pummeling cymbals at my side yard just woke me from my Saturday morning stupor.
Looking out the back door of my Costa Mesa abode produced the sight of hail the size of, uh, really big balls of hail. Sorry, folks, not used to having to measure hail in these parts.

This began happening about 7:35ish:
The National Weather Service was calling for scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 11 a.m., which is when the forecast storms producing “small” hail and gusty winds was predicted. Guess it got here early.
For the rest of today, it will supposedly be mostly cloudy, with a
20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms tonight. It's expected to be cloudy through mid-morning Sunday, then gradual clearing. Same thing Monday, although the sun may appear earlier that day.
