Breaking: Police Reportedly Shoot Car Chase Suspect


An officer-involved shooting in Seal Beach concluded a police chase Saturday, according to Lt. Jeff Nightengale of Seal Beach the Garden Grove Police Department. The male suspect is believed to have died at a local hospital. 

The chase began in Garden Grove around 4:30 p.m. when officers responded to a report of a restraining order violation on the 5900 block of Hantley Street. The suspect allegedly had a restraining order against him after he repeatedly harassed a woman he previously had a relationship with. Police saw him driving nearby the woman's house and attempted to pull him over, resulting in a car chase. The pursuit began on Valley View Street but ended when they lost the suspect.

He resurfaced driving erratically in Seal Beach and Seal Beach police notified Garden Grove police. They confronted the suspect at the Hampton Inn on Westminster Boulevard and he fled the scene on foot to a nearby Chevron gas station on the intersection of Seal Beach Boulevard and Westminster Boulevard.

The suspect allegedly tried to carjack a driver and was subsequently shot by police. A weapon was found at the scene. As of now, the Garden Grove and Seal Beach Police Departments and the Orange County District Attorney's Office are investigating.
