Bon Iver to Release New Album This Year

Rolling Stone says that Bon Iver's follow-up to their awesome 2007 debut, For Emma, Forever Ago, will be out in June. In the interview published today, front man Justin Vernon says that for this set, holing up in the woods of Wisconsin to write songs of heartbreak wasn't really feasible anymore.

“Somewhere along the line, I forgot how to write
songs,” he tells Rolling Stone. “I couldn't do it anymore with a guitar.
It wasn't happening.”

Vernon decided to work with studio musicians–sax man
Colin Stetson (Tom Waits, Arcade Fire) and pedal-steel
guitarist Greg Leisz (Bill Frissell, Linda
Rondstadt)–to change the way his songs came out. “I built the record myself, but I allowed those people to
come in and change the scene,” he said.

The result? A set of 10 songs, each one representing a place. There's a song about Perth, one called “Minnesota Wisconsin.” Gotta love a man who never forgets his roots.
