Billie Joe Armstrong Talks About Aging

It's been four years since Green Day went on hiatus after Billie Joe Armstrong checked into rehab in 2012 for prescription-pill addiction. More health setbacks arose in 2014, when bassist Mike Dirnt’s wife, Brittney, was diagnosed with breast cancer and touring guitarist Jason White was diagnosed with tonsil cancer. Thankfully, both are in remission.

More good news: Green Day is returning with the release of Revolution Radio, their 12th studio album, on October 7, 2016.

“That's the hardest thing about being in between records. When you take a break, you're taking a break from something that you absolutely love,” Armstrong told Rolling Stone. “It's not like going on a vacation because you don't like your job and it's like, 'God, I need a break.' It's hard!”

Fans will also be able to see Armstrong in his first starring role in the new film Ordinary World. (Trailer below).

Armstrong plays Perry, a former rocker-turned-family man who is on the brink of a mid-life crisis on the eve of his 40th birthday. The film opens Oct. 17 and also stars Selma Blair, Judy Greer, Fred Armisen, Brian Baumgardner,  and Chris Messina.

In addition to starring in the film, Armstrong penned four original songs for the movie's soundtrack. One track, “Ordinary World,” will also appear on Green Day’s Revolution Radio album.
