Best Place to Unload Used Books and Magazines

Word to whoever is in charge of upkeeping the benches for OCTA buses: We at the Weekly read through hundreds of magazines, newspapers and books per year. Time was when we'd toss any mags or rags into the recycling bin, then donate the books to a library. But one day, inspired by the idea of paying it forward, we left a stack of magazines on a bus bench in SanTana—Spanish, English, Harper's, People, The Atlantic, Proceso, Zeta and more. We then went to hide nearby and watch what would happen. Anyone who says print is dead is wrong: The magazines were taken within the hour. We tried the same experiment on a different day; this time, an OCTA official came and tossed all the magazines into the trash can. Hey, bus bozos, leave that free reading material alone, and let the written word ride.
