Backyard Skeptics Unveils Godless Mother’s Day Billboard

A billboard honoring mothers will be unveiled in Santa Ana this afternoon, just in time for Mother’s Day.

However, the mothers Mary, Superior and Crouch will not feel honored by the tribute.

Next to a picture of a happy mother and daughter is a caption that reads, “You Don’t Need A God To Love Your Children.”

It is brought to you by Backyard Skeptics, the local, grass-roots atheist group known for putting up provocative billboards.

The latest 48- x 14-foot billboard near Harbor Boulevard and Warner Avenue in Santa Ana is meant to appeal to the region’s better parents.

You know, atheists.

“A reason-based non-theistic world view is more peaceful, more tolerant and in many cases more moral,” reasons Bruce Gleason, founder of Fountain Valley-based Backyard Skeptics.

He points to studies show that secular parents use much less corporal punishment (spanking) to punish their children compared to those who are religious. He claims secular parenting also seems to make their offspring more tolerant, less racist and less sexist.

Here’s that billboard:

Gleason unveils it at 3 p.m. today.

Get ready for the “Satan Ana” rhetoric, kiddies.
