This follows an incident involving a La Quinta High School student walking to school Monday morning.

According to the 18-year-old woman's account to police, she was walking alone on the sidewalk near the corner of Brookhurst Street and Bishop Place around 7:35 a.m. when she was grabbed from behind.

Pulling her by the arms, the man dragged her toward his parked car. Despite her screams and attempts to break free, the baddie got her all the way to his vehicle, where he opened a door and tried to push her in. Fighting back, the young woman pushed back against the car, causing both of them to fall to the ground. The would-be kidnapper then got up, jumped into his car and drove off southbound on Brookhurst.

The woman ran up to a group of classmates nearby. She later reported the incident to a school official who alerted Westminster PD.
“This incident has us very concerned due to the suspect's aggressiveness,” said Corporal Van Woodson, the Westminster police spokesman, in an email to the Weekly. “Happily, this girl was brave and stood her ground and was able to fight this guy off.”

Due to his aggressiveness, police are concerned the dude might strike again. All Orange County police agencies have been alerted, as have the Westminster, Garden Grove, and Huntington Beach school districts.

Traffic was heavy at the time of the incident, so police believe a passerby may have seen something that will help in the investigation. If that sounds like you, call the Westminster Police Department Detective Bureau at 714.547.3207. Tips may be made anonymously.
