BC Broiler or Super Pollo?
Super Pollo by a thousand!
But that's not to knock BC Broiler at all.
Both are Costa Mesa standards, within biking distance of each other off Newport Boulevard, but each has a particular emphasis with its hens. BC Broiler subscribes to the cult of rotisserie, a cult I belong to–but it's best when Armenians are twirling the birds because you'll get a dollop of pungent garlic sauce to slather on the chicken. BC has some type of Mediterranean pedigree–almond slivers in the rice, for instance–and its chicken is plump and juicy, but I need that garlic sauce, man!
If there is no garlic sauce, I'll pick charbroiled chicken over rotisserie–hence, my selection of Super Pollo. The ritual of bird touching grill as flames leap up in a mad attempt at completely carbonizing flesh, leaving behind char along with juice, is one Mexicans learn as closely as the Rosary. I'm more than happy to sin with Armenians, but gotta stick with my raza and Super Pollo in this Costa Mesa showdown. That said, both deserve new faithful.
