Two Huntington Beach giants in the adult industry–one a prolific porn actor who died this year, the other a sex toy wholesaler who is very much alive–will be among those inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame in January.
The performer is Billy Glide, who made the Weekly's list above of the "20 Greatest Adult Film Stars in OC History." He appeared in more than 1,300 adult videos, including B. Skow's Silhouette, which also earned Glide an Adult Video News Award nomination for Best Actor this year.
Born Tad Douglas Nolen in Los Angeles, Glide entered the business out of Huntington Beach in 1995 and quickly earned a rep for having "one of the thickest penises in the porn industry," as our Orange County roundup by Gustavo Arellano, Brandon Ferguson and Shuji Sakai pointed out.
Glide's final performance was in Axel Braun's porn parody X-Men XXX, which paid tribute to the actor in a title card. Glide was helping a friend move in Huntington Beach in May when he was bitten by a pet snake. Alana Evans, a friend and fellow porn performer who is also being inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame next month, told reporters who cover the adult industry that she had heard Glide refused to get treatment and died from the bite.
Some Glide bios still list snake bite as the cause of death and Huntington Beach as the place where he expired. While Glide was indeed bitten by a snake days before, the Los Angeles County coroner confirms that the 43-year-old died at his residence in that county on May 24 of accidental ethanol intoxication. The coroner noted that an enlarged heart and fatty liver were "other significant causes."
Ethanol intoxication can occur from consuming alcoholic drinks, mouthwash, perfume, cologne, cooking extracts and over-the-counter medications, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Glide is being inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame's Video Branch. Ari Suss is going in through the Pleasure Products Branch. Suss' company XR LLC on Pipeline Lane in Huntington Beach wholesales sex toys, designs fetish gear and develops electro-sex products.
Suss and his business partner began selling straitjackets on eBay in their spare time, but the venture was so successful they soon turned it into a full-time career. In 2000, they founded the online fetish shop eXtreme Restraints that later spun off Boyzshop and Jennas Love Shop.
During the AVN Awards Show week, Suss will be among the newest hall of famers honored at an industry cocktail party Jan. 20 at Luxe bar in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas.
