A 20-year-old man was stabbed to death in his Garden Grove home, and his 25-year-old step-brother is being held for the slaying after their mother told police what happened Monday evening.
Cops were called to the home in the 13200 block of Casa Linda Lane just after 6:10 p.m. Monday about a family fight where one step-brother stabbed the other, according to Garden Grove Police Lt. Bob Bogue.
Officers arrived to give first aid to Donte Barcalo, who had been stabbed in the chest and side, until paramedics arrived. The 20-year-old was taken to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, where he died during surgery, Bogue said.
Barcalo's mother, who was at home at the time of the stabbing, told officers that a verbal argument escalated into the stabbing she pinned on Andres Adolfo Serrat, the step-brother of the deceased, said Bogue.
A knife was recovered at the home but the 25-year-old suspect had fled before he was apprehended a few blocks away and later booked into Orange County Jail on suspicion of murder, Bogue said.
