Anaheim Holds DUI Checkpoint Saturday Night

The Anaheim Police Department's Traffic Bureau is conducting a DUI/drivers license checkpoint somewhere in the city from 8 p.m. Saturday through 3 a.m. Sunday.

Meanwhile, the “Avoid the 38” task force's Winter Holiday Anti-DUI Crackdown continues nightly with special “saturation patrols” and other checkpoints that might pop up suddenly countywide through New Year's Day.

From 12:01 a.m. Dec. 13 through midnight this past Sunday, officers representing 38 Orange County law enforcement agencies had arrested 490 people for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, compared with 588 DUI arrests during the same 10-day period in 2012, according to the sheriff's department.

No DUI-related deaths were reported during that period this season. Data will be updated through Jan. 1, note sheriff's officials.

Funding for the anti-DUI operations by the Anaheim Police Department and the rest of the “Avoid the 38” agencies is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
