A 42-year-old American Junkie employee has been arrested in the death of man who took an unknown narcotic at the Newport Beach bar, according to police.
Sean Robert McLaughlin was arrested at his Aliso Viejo home around 8:45 p.m. Friday and booked into the Newport Beach Police Department Jail for suspected involuntary manslaughter, says police Lt. Jeff Brouwer.
Newport Beach Fire Department paramedics responding to a 1:08 a.m. Friday medical distress call at the bar at 2406 Newport Boulevard took four men to local hospitals for treatment, fire/police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella had said earlier in the day.
Three victims were treated and released from the hospital, but the fourth succumbed to his injuries and passed away, Brouwer said.
Ahmed Said, 25, of Santa Ana, died at 7:20 a.m. Friday at Huntington Beach Hospital, according to the county coroner.
Newport Beach Police detectives discovered Said and the other three males had obtained an unknown narcotic from McLaughlin, and search warrants were served at his home and American Junkie, Brouwer says.
The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Rick Henry at 949.644.3797 or rh****@**pd.org.
