Between Sept. 21 and Nov. 16, 2011, Polar stole a $19,500 check made out to
the Newport Beach law firm where she worked as a paralegal. With her roomie's help, the payee's name and the amount of the check were removed, replaced with Pabello's name and the new amount of $285,000.

On Nov. 16, 2011, the check was deposited via ATM into a joint bank account
held by Pabello and
Polar, who went on to charter the private jet to fly themselves
and several friends to New York
City romp that included five rooms booked at a Times Square hotel and high-end purchases
from Tiffany & Co. and Montblanc.

They later obtained cashier checks for $100,000 and $33,000 from the fraudulent fund to acquire the huge pad in Riverside County.

The thefts were discovered after the issuing bank rejected a check
that
the receiving bank had processed.

Pabello and Polar, who repaid the bank that was out $42,000 that full amount,  originally faced felony charges that could have sent them on a luxury trip to state prison for six years each.
