A 40-year-old Rancho Santa Margarita man who had apparently stabbed himself several time was shot dead by an Orange County sheriff's deputy Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Deputies were called to the residence at 28 Paseo Viento, Rancho Santa Margarita, around 2:10 p.m. about someone trying to commit suicide, says Lt. Jeff Hallock, the sheriff's spokesman.
When deputies entered the home, they found a man suffering multiple self-inflicted stab wounds, a confrontation ensued with him and a deputy-involved shooting occurred, Hallock says.
The shooting victim, identified as Alec Ouzounian, was taken by paramedics to a local hospital where he later died, says Hallock, who adds no deputies were injured in the incident.
The Orange County District Attorney's office is investigating the shooting, as is protocol.
