Afro-Latino Festival

For all the afrodescendientes out there, this event is for you. Afro Latino heritage festivals are widespread around this time of year, and its quite possibly a no-brainer that the Museum of Latin American Art, a space that commonly celebrates all shades of Latino culture and expression, would host their own fest. This event is filled with activities for people of all ages, but come especially to take in the eclectic array of entertainment: from the vibrant, authentic Peruvian dance troupe Matalache Danzas del Peru to Lidereibugu Garifuna Ensemble's display of Central American/Caribbean rhythms. Los Angeles-based retro soul/salsa group Boogaloo Assassins will also be laying down their Latin grooves that are reminiscent of the Spanish Harlem-era musical explosion of the 1960s. Couple this with the open galleries presenting Cuban artist Esterio Segura's current show, and you have an amazing intersection of beautiful cultures, all in one place.
