Acclaimed Thriller The World of Kanako Will Have You Suds-ing in Your Shorts FRIDAY

Orange County does not yet have an Alamo Drafthouse. (A combination pub and cineplex? I'M IN!!! Seriously, I'll be moving my sofa and toothbrush and jammies drawer in permanently once one arrives.) However, Orange County is getting Drafthouse Films’ acclaimed new thriller The World of Kanako.

It's been described as “an expertly crafted, relentless sledgehammer to the senses,” which is ironic because that's how I describe too many draft IPAs after I house them. In my person.

But back to The World of Kanako, it follows a troubled ex-detective Akikazu (Kôji Yakusho, 13 Assassins, Babel) on the hunt for his missing teenage daughter, Kanako. What he finds is an unsettling and harrowing web of depravity––surrounding both Kanako and himself. We're talking drugs, sexand violence—you know, the things that make this country great.

Don't know if that can also be said of Japan, but that is where the movie and director Tetsuya Nakashima (Confessions) hail from. Here is the trailer:

The World of Kanako opens Friday at Santa Ana’s Frida Cinema, 305 East Fourth Street. The 10:30 p.m. showing is recommended for extra-special spookiness.
