This week brings news of a man going to prison forever for sexually assaulting a little boy and little girl he was supposedly watching so their parents could get a break.
Then there is the long prison stretch handed to a guy who raped an ex-girlfriend and an older woman from work.
Someone out there is posing as a cop to pluck prostitutes from Santa Ana streets and rape them.
Another fellow is accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl he also allegedly pimped out in Santa Ana.
Thomas Austin Farmer was sentenced Friday to 250 years to life in prison for sexually assaulting a girl and boy, ages 4 and 5, in Anaheim. The 44-year-old was best friends with the victims’ parents, who resided with them and an infant sister in an Anaheim motel room. Farmer would offer to give the mother and father a break by having the children sleep over in the sober living home he lived in and helped manage. That’s where he sexually assaulted them from June 2013 through April 2014, according to Orange County Senior Deputy District Attorney Heather Brown. Farmer, who was convicted Jan. 19 of multiple felony counts, received the maximum sentence, Brown noted.
Babak “Bobby” Azadgilani was sentenced Friday to 40 years to life in prison for raping an ex-girlfriend and an older woman with whom he worked. The then-41-year-old woman was raped in her Laguna Beach home, and the ex-girlfriend, 22 at the time, was raped in the Laguna Niguel home 29-year-old Azadgilani shared with his father. Neither victim knew one another, according to Orange County Deputy District Attorney Lexie Elliott, but they shared this in common: Azadgilani got them alone, became amorous and then forced himself on them, punched them and choked them. He was convicted in February of two counts of rape and one count of forcible oral copulation. Jurors found true sentencing enhancements for multiple victims and the use of a knife in one attack, but they also found him not guilty of felony forced sodomy.
John Wayne Calhoun was arrested Thursday for allegedly pimping out a 13-year-old girl Santa Ana police officers encountered that day in an area of the city known for prostitution.
Then the Orange County District Attorney’s office entered the picture, charging the 38-year-old San Bernardino resident with one felony count of human trafficking of a minor, two felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14, one felony count each of pimping a minor and pandering with a minor under 16 years old as well as sentencing enhancements for human trafficking and a 2012 felony conviction for inflicting corporal injury upon a spouse or cohabitant in San Bernardino County. The girl is the youngest victim resulting in the filing of charges since the 2013 formation of the DA’s Human Exploitation and Trafficking Unit, according to a statement from prosecutors. The multi-agency Orange County Human Trafficking Task Force has identified a victim forced into prostitution at age 10.
A white man in his mid 40s is the subject of a manhunt in Santa Ana, where he is believed to have committed at least three sexual assaults of prostitutes. An August 2015 incident and two more in January happened on Harbor Boulevard near Hazard, according to the Santa Ana Police Department. “In each case, the suspect approached the victim and claimed to be an undercover officer,” reads a SAPD advisory. “After coaxing each victim into his vehicle, the suspect drove the victims to secluded locations where he sexually assaulted them.” He is described as 5-foot-7 to 6 feet tall with a muscular build, blond or gray hair and blue eyes. A car he drove has been described as a newer model blue, four-door Nissan or older black, two-door Subaru or similar looking hatchback.
