A Christmas Carol 35th Annual Production

There’s time to reread the classic short Dickens novella before seeing the excellently enduring stage adaptation of the old, roasted, if still piping-hot chestnut of social critique and guilt-tripping reformist call to class consciousness, A Christmas Carol. Weirdly, conservative Orange County’s homegrown South Coast Rep troupers have made a reputation (and made bank!) for themselves with this 35-year tradition of reanimating the parable-meets-ghost-story-meets-fairy-tale. Spot other genres which Dickens exploited in SCR’s own inventively mashed-up song, dance, drama and, yes, acrobatics-filled version. You may need to steal a ticket or be extra-nice to a friend or, better, an enemy to get in, so popular is this heartfelt holiday OC spectacle.
