Glen Justice, Local Oncologist, Sentenced to 18 Months For Health Care Fraud

An Orange County oncologist, whose fraudulent health care schemes caused losses of up to $1 million, was sentenced to a year-and-a-half in federal prison yesterday.

In a precious paradigm of irony, the 66-year-old doctor who pleaded guilty to five counts of health care fraud is named Glen Justice.
And, that's just what the doctor who used to run Pacific Coast Hematology/Oncology Medical Group in Fountain Valley got for the scheme he maintained from at least 2004 to October 2009.

Justice billed health insurance providers for injectable cancer meds, even though his patients never got them, and other times he lied to the insurance companies about giving more expensive meds than the patients really got, according to a press release put out by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

As if Medicare doesn't have enough problems on its own, jerks like Justice screw it over even more. The scheme worked on both public and private insurance providers–including Medicare, Tricare and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of California–and caused losses of somewhere between $400,000 and $1 million.
Aside from giving him jail time, U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney also ordered Justice to pay more than $1 million in restitution for his transgressions.
Credited for the investigation that brought Justice justice: the FBI, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the IRS's criminal investigation unit and the Department of Defense.
