There was a fad a few years ago, before sustainability went mainstream, when environmentalists preached the green gospel through bumper stickers and shirts that read “Love your mother,” and showed a colorful image of Earth.
One could imagine creationists sharing a derisive laugh over the message.
But environmentalists are an earnest lot, which is not to say they don't know how to have a good time. And to that end, some of our local tree huggers are once again throwing a bash to raise bucks for a cause dear to their hearts. The 8th Annual Tree Huggers Ball takes place June 23 to support the preservation of the wildlands of the Santa Ana Mountains.

The event takes place from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. at 27912 Baker Canyon Rd., and will feature live music, entertainment, food and adult beverages. Wear an earthy costume or bring your own reusable dinnerware, and you could enter to win a prize! How awesome is that? There's even a Green Expo from 4 p.m. to dusk.
Adult tickets at the gate cost $30, but pre-sale tickets can be purchased for $25 at www.canyonland.org.
