#93. Cuban Sandwich from DeSimone's Deli

Walking into DeSimone's, a Huntington Beach deli that sprouted a new outpost on Orange's busy Tustin Ave., the only clue that the owners are Cuban are a display of Cuban sodas (Materva, JupiƱa, and the like) and the delicious Cuban sandwich available.

The Miami-area staple of roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard layered onto crusty Cuban bread is pressed and grilled into an impossibly flaky creation at DeSimone's. Get it to eat in so that you can have a plate of the house-made salads (cold bean salad, potato and macaroni salads) alongside it. Make a royal mess, spend five minutes cleaning up after yourself, and rejoice in the price: under $6.

DeSimone's Deli, 6850 Edinger Ave., Huntington Beach; (714) 847-0922. Second location at 2279 N. Tustin Ave., Orange; (714) 637-3000.
