76. Dim Sum at Seafood Cove #2

Behold the beginning of our annual 100 Favorite Dishes countdown! Every day until the publication of our fantabulous Best Of Issue, we'll list our favorite meals this year in descending order. Enjoy, pass it on, and tune in daily!

The three most common questions I receive as a food writer: what's good to eat within walking distance of Disneyland, where can I eat good Mexican food, and where can I get dim sum in Orange County.

The first is getting a little easier to answer, the second one has always been easy as long as Mexican food doesn't mean Don Jose's to you, and the third one was always awkward: drive to Alhambra, which is far and has daunting parking. For OC, though, I always recommend Seafood Cove #2. Sure, there are other places to yum cha, but Seafood Cove sends out the hottest items, they have the nicest cart ladies, and they have the best tea selection (you knew you could order better tea than the default, right?).

For a county without a strong Cantonese restaurant presence–our Chinese tends toward Taiwanese–Seafood Cove #2 scratches an itch that everyone has and no one talks about. When it's not dim sum hours, they serve live seafood, just like every Cantonese restaurant in Los Angeles. We've been back many times, because sometimes the drive to Alhambra is too daunting. Good luck parking, though.
