ORIGINAL POST, JAN. 2, 9:17 A.M.: “Criminal activity” had been taking place in a Huntington Beach home where a man was shot twice in the chest in a home-invasion robbery early today, according to police.

The man, who is in his 20s to 30s, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Huntington Beach Police officials added.

The sound of gunfire around 3:25 a.m. sent cops to the residence in the 8300 block of Lambert Drive, where it was discovered the victim had been shot with a high-powered handgun after two masked men busted into the place, police said.

Huntington Beach Police Chief Robert Handy reportedly told KTLA/Channel 5 news this morning that some kind of “criminal activity” he would not specify had been going on inside the residence before the invasion.

At least two people who had been sleeping in the residence awoke to find the masked strangers, according to Handy, who added it appears at least one resident had been targeted. His investigators were awaiting a search warrant of the place.

Police Lt. Timothy Martin had previously told City News Service it was unknown if anything was taken.
