Some things have changed about the Garden Grove Police Department's report about an officer-involved shooting in the area of Jacalene Lane and Chapman Avenue just after 4 p.m. Monday. Yesterday, the person who was shot was an 18-year-old man who had pointed a black, semi-automatic handgun at the officer before being shot and hospitalized. Today, he's a 17-year-old boy and the bit about raising his weapon is missing from the police narrative.

The suspect, who paramedics took to UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, is today listed in stable condition, according to Garden Grove Police Capt. Ben Stauffer, who identified him only as a Garden Grove resident due to his age.
Here's how the shooting was originally described by Stauffer's colleague Lt. Bob Bogue: An off-duty Santa Ana cop called Garden Grove Police about 4 p.m. regarding someone walking around Fredrick Drive and Ninth Street with a black, semi-automatic handgun in his hand before tucking it into his waistband. When a Garden Grove cop confronted the suspect at Chapman Avenue and Jacalene Lane, the weapon was pointed at the officer, prompting the officer to fire back, Bogue said.
Stauffer today: “A Garden Grove officer located the suspect on the south sidewalk at Chapman Avenue and Jacalene Lane, where an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect was given immediate medical attention and was transported to UCIMC. The officer was not injured. The Orange County Crime Lab was called in to process the scene for evidence. The Orange County District Attorney's Office was called in to investigate the shooting.”
The officer has been placed on administrative leave “per standard operating procedures,” according to Stauffer.
