As we ease into summertime, everyone finds a
excuse reason to gather. Our lineup includes two BBQ, one luxe lonchera, and Placentia's answer to Top Chef. If your schedule allows, check one out.
Friday - Bistango's "Great American Grill-Off"
To kick-off the weekend, this business lunch mainstay is throwing a party on the patio (they have a patio?). Complete with swimsuit fashion show, comped appetizers and live music, patrons will watch five amateur grillers compete for a $1,000 gift card at either Kimera, Bistango or Bayside. Saturday/Sunday - Farm-to-Food Tuck Challenge and OC BBQ Festival
The third annual luxe lonchera challenge at SoCo's Certified Farmers' Market (you may recall Gustavo and Dave judging the second one back in November) will have the previous winner, SlapFish's Andrew Gruel, as a judge. Six teams will be competing for the 'Top Chop Truck' title, sourcing their ingredients from the neighboring purveyors. The list includes Tamarindo Truck, Seabirds, Barcelona OntheGo, Taco Maria and Chomp Chomp Nation. The cooking commences at noon. For more information, go to socofm.com.

Monday - Top Chef OC
We know it's not the weekend, but it's another reason to get out of the house! More golf competition than anything else, Alta Vista Country Club has joined the culinary bandwagon with an event of their own. Raising funds for CHOC, they're hosting the Endless Summer Invitational Sunday and Monday. The SAFII-pertinent portion occurs Monday evening, alongside their Long Drive shoot out. Entrants will be gunning for the 'Top Chef OC' title, serving their dishes head-to-head at the first hole at 5 o'clock. For more information, visit the Endless Summer Invitational here.
