Now (Sorta) Open: Ujelly In Fountain Valley

The sweet, the savory and the thirsty. Ujelly's addictive lineup expects to quell your cravings one way or another. Just ask owners LysaThuy Pham (Fusion Tea Bar founder), Scott Nghiem and Andy Nguyen (creators of Afters Ice Cream). Successful entrepreneurs in their own right, the trio softly launched a hybrid concept of creative doughnuts, stuffed croissants and plentiful beverages on the corner of Brookhurst and Edinger.

We arrived one evening to learn croissants ($2-$3.50) were still in the works. Andy Nguyen was on site, overseeing production of a few practice batches. As with most donut spots that aren't 24-hour, our selection that time of day was dwindling. We seized the last coconut flan, a Vietnamese coffee version, plus their take on cookies and cream. A citrus iced tea (pricing starts at $2.95) washed down our desserts.

Ujelly's official grand opening date is Saturday, January 9. When you do stop by, know that available flavors ($1.50-$3) will vary leading up to their big launch. Abbreviated hours are also in effect until then (closing time was 8 p.m.). And those croissants?  Expect flaky and filled goodness, “….early next week.” per Nguyen. Donut worry, we'll definitely be back for those.

Ujelly is at 16051 Brookhurst St, Fountain Valley. Phone number and website not available.
