In 2007, Suwanee, Georgia resident Angie Dudley took a cake decorating class on a whim. She quickly became hooked on the basic techniques she learned, including making and tinting frosting, icing cakes and how to use decorating tools. Soon after, the Bakerella blog was born. It became a site where Angie could chronicle and share her many baking exploits and adventures.

Through her baking explorations, Angie discovered cake balls. Perfect little handfuls of dessert, cake balls are bits of cake and frosting combined and shaped into a ball and covered with a candy coating. She took the balls a step further, added a stick, and the cake pop was born!

Bakerella continued to develop new shapes for her cake pops, and her cupcake-shaped cake pops landed her on The Martha Stewart Show. She's now written the book Cake Pops: Tips, Tricks, and Recipes for More Than 40 Irresistible Mini Treats. The instant best-seller is flying off shelves--Angie Dudley is now embarking on a book signing tour in Williams and Sonoma stores nationwide, including a signing at the Costa Mesa location on Monday, October 11.

After the jump, get info on Monday's book signing, take a look at the new Cake Pops book, and enter to win a free copy of your very own from Chronicle Books!

And once you've mastered the cake ball, Bakerella walks you through three other basic projects: the cake pop, the cupcake pop and the cupcake bite. If you work your way through these four recipes in one piece, you're more than ready to tackle the oodles of cute cake pop projects offered throughout the rest of the book!
