Drink of the Week: Blushing Geisha at RA Sushi

RA Sushi
serves food that looks cool but tastes… not as cool. What saves this über-trendy sushi bar from don't-believe-the-hype status? The amazing happy hour. It's half-off many sushi rolls and appetizers–plus crazy drink specials.

You really only need one of RA's specialty drinks to get your money's worth during happy hour. The drinks are strong (!), so lightweights beware.

I recommend the Blushing Geisha cocktail, which is only $4 during that very special time. Served in a pint glass, it's made with lemonade, Skyy raspberry vodka, raspberry liqueur, and lemon-lime soda. It tastes exactly like raspberry lemonade–but with a nice kick, of course. It definitely lives up to its description on the menu: “Looks innocent, but look again, she might not be.” The Blushing Geisha can give you a solid buzz after one; go for two, and you will likely be set for the night. Their sake-based cocktails are also good, but tend to be a bit too strong.

The happy-hour prices at RA range from $1 – $5. You can't get much better than that, and if you get drunk enough, you won't care that the sushi is nothing too special. Plus, if you visit RA Sushi in Tustin, you can always stumble next door to the Auld Dubliner when happy hour ends.
