Orange County's coroner has identified a 23-year-old man who was shot and killed early Sunday in what Anaheim Police believe was a gang-related homicide as Jared Smith of Orange.

Investigators have little to go on. Officers were dispatched to the apartment building at 3424 W. Olinda Ave. around 2 a.m. Sunday about a felony assault, according to Anaheim Police Lt. Eric Trapp.

They discovered Smith, who had been shot and who paramedics would pronounce dead at the scene, said Trapp, who did not disclose why investigators believe the shooting was gang related.

Anyone with information that can help fill in the blanks, even anonymous tips, is asked to contact Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855.847.6227 (855-TIP-OCCS), via occrimestoppers.org or by texting to 274637 (C-R-I-M-E-S) from a cell phone. (All text messages should begin with the letters "OCCS".)
