That's also about when I awoke from the Orange County sheriff's helicopter Duke flying over my north Costa Mesa home and broadcasting the missing boy's name and description. A Costa Mesa Police Department advisory notes the sheriff's bloodhound search team helped officers searching on the ground.
"Diego is autistic, however, he has limited communication skills and answers by his first name," reads the advisory. "Diego is not fearful of police or others. Diego has no known history of running away, and there is no indication of suspicious circumstances at this time."
He is described as 4-foot-11 and about 110 pounds with long brown hair. He was last seen wearing a green shirt, black shorts and red sandals.
Anyone who may have spotted him or knows where he is should contacted Costa Mesa police dispatch at 714.754.5252.
