Diego Garcia, the 11-year-old autistic boy reported missing from his Costa Mesa home Monday morning, was found unharmed in Santa Ana late that afternoon, according to police.
The boy apparently wandered away from his apartment in the 1200 block of Adams Avenue before 6:45 a.m.
He was located around 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of Fairview Road and Edinger Avenue.
"A passerby, who was familiar with the incident, saw a child that matched the description that was given regarding Diego," reads a Costa Mesa Police advisory. "The passerby called Santa Ana PD and they responded to the intersection to find Diego tired but unharmed. CMPD detectives, who were actively working the case, responded to the location and confirmed the juvenile was Diego. Diego was driven to his home where he was reunited with his family. All evidence suggests that Diego wandered away from home and no foul play is suspected at this point. No further details are available at this time."
