[UPDATED] Nate Dogg Passes Away at 41

UPDATE, MARCH 16, 8:24 P.M.: According to TMZ, the family of Nate Dogg believes his cause of death was complications from previous strokes he had suffered. Nate Dogg's friend and manager, Rod McGrew, tells TMZ not only was the death unexpected, but also the musician had "cognitively fully recovered." He released an official statement on behalf of Nate Dogg's family:

"We appreciate the enormous outpouring of response from all over the world. We greatly appreciate that and thank everyone for their prayers and support. We know that Nate will be hanging out with his good friends 2Pac and Biggie." 

ORIGINAL ITEM, MARCH 15, 10:58 P.M.: Not much information is available at the moment, but it is being reported that legendary Long Beach-born and -raised musician Nate Dogg, born Nathaniel Dwayne Hale, has passed away.

While the

rumors first circulated on Twitter


the Long Beach Press-Telegram

is reporting Nate Dogg has indeed passed away from an unknown cause of death.

Nate Dogg had previously suffered a stroke on Dec. 19, 2007. In January 2008, MTV reported the stroke had paralyzed the left side of his body. In September 2008, the musician suffered a second stroke.

Known for his rich, soulful baritone voice, Nate Dogg was famously part of the same musical circle as other well-known Long Beach rappers including Snoop Dogg, Warren G, Daz Dillinger and more. Nate Dogg debuted his talents to the world with Dr. Dre's The Chronic.
