The only thing with more roots in Orange County than Steve Martin is the 118-year-old palm tree growing in Adventureland.

Coincidentally, Martin's career began next to that bark-covered behemoth inside Disneyland, where he sold guidebooks on weekends before graduating to full-time employee inside Merlin's Magic shop at Fantasyland, where Martin first learned how to charm an audience. (He also sold fake vomit).

By studying Wally Boag's performances at the nearby Golden Horseshoe Revue, Martin learned another trick which would shape his career: how to squeeze laughs from a captive audience.

Martin hasn't starred in a feature film since 2011's The Big Year, so we were hoping the Father of the Bride 3 announcement from "Hollywood's most-feared reporter" (as dubbed by Forbes) Nikki Finke, were true. Finke posted this announcement on her very-recently-launched site NikkiFinke.com:

"...Disney and Warner Bros are sorting out the rights to Father Of The Bride 3 with Charles Shyer to write and direct (Nancy Meyers passed) and Steve Martin to return. (What else does he have going?) The twist in this threequel is that Little Matty is now 29 and gay and getting married to a Navy SEAL's son. Father of the bride George is "thunderstruck and speechless" and has problems with the whole gay thing. So wife Nina kicks him out of the house, according to the pitch which Disney loved. Shyer is writing it with Marc Klein, David Hoberman producing again. "It's a timely idea," my source said. "I told Charles I just hope it goes forward before gay stops trending..."

Martin deployed his signature brand of sarcasm to squelch to the rumor yesterday, via twitter:

You can catch Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers featuring Edie Brickell on July 1st at Humphreys in San Diego. Afterward, mosey to the Hollywood Bowl for one (or more) shows during Martin's three-night stint for the 2014 July 4th Fireworks Spectacular with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.
