ORIGINAL POST, NOV. 7, 9:02 A.M.: A man who fought with police in a Santa Ana strip mall parking lot Sunday night later died from wounds he suffered in an officer-involved shooting, the department said this morning.
For reasons not yet disclosed, officers approached a white truck parked at the closed center along Edinger Avenue and Sullivan Street, where they had an altercation with the unidentified man inside around 11:30 p.m., according to Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, the agency’s spokesman.
Cops tased the suspect during the scuffle and then the officer-involved shooting happened, Bertagna says.
Described only as a Latino in his 30s, the man later died from his injuries at UCI Medical Center in Orange.
An unidentified male officer treated at a trauma center for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the altercation was listed in stable condition today.
