[Special Screenings] Local Showings of 'The Neverending Story,' More

Movie of the Week:

The Neverending Story. While it's no Das Boot, Wolfgang Petersen's film version of a popular German fantasy novel is just as memorable and impressive in its own way. It's unique visual design and its story, which emphasizes the power of imagination, made it an instant children's classic (and the kickin' theme song didn't hurt). Can a young man from the human world save the fictional kingdom of Fantasia from being swallowed by the Nothing? Could this Calendar editor as a young lad have had a bigger crush on the princess? An excellent family film that remains as intriguing for adults as it is captivating for children. Regency South Coast Village, 1561 W. Sunflower Ave., Santa Ana. Wed., 7:30 p.m. $6.50.
