As one of the few bands to survive three decades with a relatively consistent level of quality (and a relatively consistent lineup, too), Los Lobos could be forgiven for coasting on their laurels, not that they’re likely to do so. With a strong sense of regional East Los Angeles pride, the band created their own mélange of blues, rock, roots, and traditional Spanish and Mexican music, earning them a place on bills with ostensibly harder-edged Los Angeles punk bands in the late ’70s and early ’80s. While nearly every band they shared a stage with in those days have become footnotes in music history, Los Lobos are still going strong, writing and recording new music, touring to packed houses, and still tearing up the stage better than any other fiftysomethings out there. Come see them play with the Blasters, LA’s other roots-rock mainstays, and relive the glory days of 1982.
